PROOF is dedicated to the power of the camera to bear witness, and create images that can make the anonymous waves of human rights tragedies personal and immediate calls to action. PROOF has brought together photographers, documentarians, academics and creative people from many media in an alliance to reach out and teach with images that can inspire us through exhibitions, publications, and on site activities in nations with some of the world’s most difficult recent histories.
Faceless numbers do not move people to action – individual lives shattered by violence or genocide, of rescuers who cross lines of hatred to preserve strangers’ lives, of survivors and child soldiers are the inspiration that PROOF provides. Seeing these witnesses come to life in photography and documentary provides powerful lessons in recovering countries like Bosnia, and the motivation for the watching world to act to prevent tragedies.
